I have always been a big fan of the Ford Taurus SHO going all the way back to the Yamaha-powered versions of the 1990s. The new 2013 SHO is, without a doubt, the best running and handling version yet. At a glance, you’ll find a new, much more aggressive front with a mesh grille instead of the horizontal bars on the previous model. From the side, you cannot ignore the new 19-inch alloy wheels that come standard on the car, and it gets even better when you get the Performance Package which comes with 20” wheels that look great. From behind, you’ll find new LED taillights and a sleeker rear spoiler. To be able to see better while backing up there is a new reversing camera, which now shows graphics based on your steering angle, rather than just straight lines, another nice touch. The real story is under the hood. Acceleration off the line is truly amazing thanks to the 3.5-liter, twin-turbo, V6 EcoBoost engine, which produces 365-horses and 350 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered by all-wheel drive, via a six-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. The new SHO now delivers a seriously impressive 0-60 time of just 5.2 seconds.


The Performance package adds upgraded performance brake pads, sport-calibrated electric power-assisted steering, higher-rated springs, tuned shocks, and stiffer stabilizer bars and rear suspension. It also features electronic stability control with a Track Mode/True Off setting, and the aforementioned 20-inch machined and painted wheels with performance summer tires, new larger front and rear brake rotors, and upgraded cooling package. Inside, the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO has a refined and attractive interior with a few small tweaks for 2013. The vehicle's pillars are now wrapped in cloth, and the center console features a soft-touch cover instead of plastic materials of the last few years.

Ford has worked to better differentiate the SHO from its lesser siblings with new dash appliques, and the metal finish looks and feels excellent. The center console is dominated by a large touchscreen interface for the recently improved MyFord Touch system. With new buttons that are easy to see, the graphics are a big improvement. The overall look and feel of the cabin is spectacular. The 2013 SHO is a driver’s machine and handles like a dream. With its refreshed exterior, interior tweaks and more substantial braking system, the 2013 Ford Taurus SHO is an improvement and unlike any other really large sedan I have driven.


The Chrysler 300 SRT8 is the only thing that comes to mind that is even close. Loaded with technology and easily optioned without breaking the bank, this SHO continues to offer buyers a legitimate alternative to many of the German sedans out there for a lot less money. This is another one of those rare cars that will make every member of the family happy. What I liked most: Performance and driving characteristics. What I would change: Nothing I can think of. Yes it's me again. Also drove a prototype of this car although it was a police version. That ecoboost runs great and good fuel mileage. The F-150 crew cab does well with this engine also.
