New Lincoln Aviator SUV Is Brandís First Plug-In Hybrid

Surprise! Lincoln is revealing its first plug-in hybrid. Itís the new Lincoln Aviator SUV.

Calling it a ďteaserĒ model, Lincoln unveiled a preview of its newest three-row, rear-wheel drive SUV this week in . The production version is slated to go on sale next year.

The big news is that the Aviator is the first Lincoln that will offer a plug-in hybrid option. It will be capable of using its twin-turbocharged engine if needed, to ease range anxiety.
It will also introduce new technology to the brand. Lincoln says owners will be able to ditch their key fobs and instead be able to use its new ďPhone as KeyĒ technology. It allows drivers to use their smartphone as a key to lock and unlock the vehicle, open its trunk and, start it up.

Also of note, it will offer Lincolnís first-ever Suspension Preview Technology. Using the Aviatorís advanced forward camera scanning the road ahead, it seamlessly adjusts the suspension for upcoming road conditions like potholes.

Aviator will also be equipped with Lincoln Co-Pilot360, an advanced suite of standard driver-assist technologies.

In terms of looks, as the name implies, itís designed with an aviation theme. Lincoln went for elegant, flowing lines. In the cabin, itís slated to get those Lincolnís Perfect Position 30-way adjustable massage seats Jerry loves so much. The second-row seats can recline and slide forward for easy access to the third row.
Itís been an exciting time for Lincoln of late, with the brand experiencing a resurgence thanks in large part to former Lincoln Chief Kumar Galhoptra. He was recently named the President of Ford North America effective March 1st.
